Godai β€” meaning the great five elemental forces in Japanese philosophy β€” is the ambient project of OΚ»ahu-based artists Floteson and Max High. Their collaboration emerges out of a shared interest in live improvisation, transcendent soundscapes and environmental themes. Experimental by nature, the duo channel the five elements through their use of avant-garde guitar techniques, flute echoes and analog synth swells.

Max High is a music producer and DJ based in Honolulu. In a live setting, Max leans towards lush ambient soundscapes by mixing synthesizers with flute, melodica, percussion and echo effects

Floteson is a KāneΚ»ohe based producer and guitarist. Trained at the New England Conservatory, his practice explores conversive, narrative, and figurative processes. His work seeks to reconcile the contradictory things he loves: collaboration and solitude, narrative structure and nonlinear thinking, technology and the human touch. Floteson's alter ego, Dean Harada, runs the Hawaiian Avant Garde vinyl label Lōʻihi Records.
